To include the rest of this stuff, George the radioactive gas would have to come back to earth and give his radioactivity to Fred, the Carbon atom. This would make Fred radioactive C14. A big peach tree would absorb Fred and use biochemistry to turn him into a sugar molecule. Then a caveman would come along and eat the peach and Fred would become part of the caveman. 12,000 years later, a team of archaeologists would use powerful acids and bases to dissolve the caveman's bones. They would be trying to find Fred and any other carbon14 atoms like him. Using the amount of C14 from the bones, the archaeologists could estimate how long ago the caveman died.
