Is iodine ok to apply on a dogs toe?

My dog chaffed/scratched a layer of skin of his toe. There is very little bleeding and he keeps licking the wound. I was wondering if applying iodine to disinfect would be poisonous for him since he will lick it off. Any suggestions?
